Design Study

Mokja

Since I moved to NYC 6 years ago, food and restaurant exploration has become an increasingly important part of my everyday life. I frequently find myself rotating through apps like Google Maps, Eater, Instagram, Yelp and Uber Eats because each offers a unique product offering that they do very well. This design study is intended to explore how all of these features could be combine into a single app.

DEFINE

Explore how to make food discovery easier.
The Problem

Each major food & restaurant related app today does one thing really well. Google Maps is the best in navigating nearby restaurants and giving directions to getting there, Eater keeps you up to date on food and restaurant news, making food critics more accessible, Instagram brings a social angle to food, and Uber Eats delivers you the food you want. As someone who is curious about food, and loves exploring new cuisines and restaurants I often find myself toggling between these apps in food discovery. An app that seamlessly integrates all of these features together would be ideal.

DESIGN

An app that makes restaurant exploration informed by both friend and critic reviews.
Articles about chefs, restaurants and cuisines are also available for the curious minds

Refined Filters

Restaurant exploration should be informed by both food critics and friends alike.

Food for the social

This design integrates interactive features with your friends every step of the way to reflect the sociability of food and restaurant exploration.

WHAT'S NEXT

In the next iteration of these designs, I’d like to integrate articles and content on information about chefs, cuisines and restaurants. This addition would allow users to be curious about food, while exploring restaurants that offer it.

Here are a few lo-fi mocks.
